1990 SNK
An ambitious attempt to create a first-person beat-em-up falls flat on its face as SNK discovers the reasons why everybody else waited a couple of years until it could be done properly.
The Super Spy is a first-person shooter (or, more often, a first-person beat-em-up) with a wide range of weapons. This being 1990, you can strafe sideways and sometimes walk forwards, but cannot walk backwards or turn. It's a very forward-thinking and ambitious idea, and you can tell that SNK have tried their hardest to make this a fun game to play. Unfortunately, they've failed, and created something that's more an illustration of principle than a game.
When an enemy walks up to you, press the first button to punch, or the second button to kick, or the third to change your weapon. It's entirely random whether your punches connect, or whether your enemy hits you before you hit them. This problem is fundamental enough to break the game completely. Simply not worth playing.
