Oh My God!
Oh My God!

1993 Atlus

This is kind of like Snake, mixed with any generic puzzle game. It's as interesting as it sounds, but not quite as fun – the learning curve is very steep, making this better for two-player games.

You must guide your descending snake around the screen so that when it touches something, it splits into balls that line up with your existing ones. Diagonals are fine, corners don't count, and three balls are needed for an elimination, Columns-style. As the game progresses, your snake becomes longer, and descends faster. The result is that you've always got a column in the middle of your screen becoming taller and taller with leftover snake bits, which is usually what finishes you off.

Presentation, although suitably detailed and rich, is unfortunately rather off-putting – bad Japanese voiceovers of “Oh My God!” are laid over cheesy porn music.

It's probably fair to say that this would be a very deep and interesting game to play once we'd mastered the mechanics, but Emily the Librarian and I just couldn't bring ourselves to invest the time required, especially when there were other, more accessible puzzle games available.
