Hanagumi Taisen Columns - Sakura Wars
Hanagumi Taisen Columns - Sakura Wars

1997 Sega

I can imagine how the meeting went...
"Gentlemen, we're struggling.  We need a new arcade game to re-ignite gamers' Sega passions."
"How about a sequel to Columns?"
"Damn it man, try to think of something new for once in your miserable life!"
"Columns with cute anime girls?"
"...you've got something, there."

...aaaand, that's it!  What, you expected an in-depth review of this game?  It's Columns.  Well, it's a modernized version of Columns with cute anime girls.  It's not in the slightest bit original, but it is very enjoyable, and the Librarian Girlfriend and I have it on our Favourites list.  It beats out the original and both sequels that I know of.  So long as you go into this expecting more of the same but with more interesting aesthetics, you'll probably enjoy it too.
